Coaching

Attention All Coaches

Due to the ever increasing liability issues, Lumberton Township has implemented a policy for all coaches to have a State and Federal background check done.

Click Here For Coaching Requirements and Additional Details.

Training Requirements: Prior to participating as a coach in any sports program, prospective coaches shall participate in, and successfully complete, the Rutgers Safety Training Course. The Township will assume the costs and fees associated with said Course. The refund previously granted to coaches based upon the fee for enrollment of a child in the program they are coaching, shall no longer apply; the Township's absorption of the fee associated with the Rutgers Safety Training Course shall take the place of said previous refund policy.

Attention Coaches - Protective Eyewear Requirement

A New State Law requires children who wear eyeglasses to wear protective eyewear while participating in certain sports activities. Sample activities include basketball, soccer, baseball, and softball. Recreation departments are not liable for failure to enforce the act. Please make sure your child has the appropriate eye wear protection. If you have any questions, please call.

"No school, community or government agency engaged in organizing, teaching, refereeing or coaching a sports activity described in section 1 of this act ( Chapter 306 ) shall be liable in a civil action for failure to administer or enforce the provisions of this act." This takes effect July 11, 2006.

This 3-hour clinic is required of all volunteer coaches. This class reviews coaching concepts, coaching philosophies, basic first aid and liability. Attending this class will provide all volunteer coaches with additional civil immunity from liability for injuries, accidents, etc. The fee is $30, which covers materials.
