We offer a variety of programs for children. Program descriptions are listed below. Please check the individual program listing for registration details.
Abrakadoodle Art
Abrakadoodle is the most comprehensive art program of its kind in the nation, offering classes in painting, drawing, sculpting, designing mosaics, digital design and more. During this fall session our Doodlers will travel the globe as they learn "about" art through art! Abrakadoodle is dedicated to inspiring creativity in every child not just the artistically gifted -Twoosy Doodlers, Mini Doodlers and Doodlers will grow their creative side through carefully designed, develpmentally appropriate lessons that ignite the imagination! Join us for the inaugral session in Lumberton as we explore art elements of color, line and perspective. Study artisits from America, Switzerland and Germany's to learn fascinating techniques including wax resist and "Bull's Eye" painting. We use only Crayola products to ensure high quality and safety.
Abrakadoodle's experienced curriculum team of educators and artists have released more than 1200 Abrakadoodle lessons to date. Abrakadoodle's Artist of Distinction program further connects contemporary artists to children in our art classrooms through a unique inspirational program in which select artists share their vision, style and technique, which is incorporated into Abrakadoodle lessons. Abrakadoodle's exclusive integrated curriculum exceeds National Standards for Visual Arts Education.
All-sport and conditioning camp
An innovative and intense speed camp developed to enhance the athletes speed for any sport! Learn how to run faster and efficiently for: football, soccer, softball, track, basketball, baseball, lacrosse & tennis. Each athlete will receive training and instructional lessons on how to improve their speed for all sports. This training that will improve your athletic agility and basic conditioning. This camp is held in July.
Baseball
This program is open to children entering Kindergarten in the 2009-2010 school year through 2nd grade. Pre-K & K players will be co-ed and will pay T-ball. 1st & 2nd grader boys will have a Machine Pitch program. This program begins in the middle of April with most games on Saturday and practice one night a week.
Basketball Preseason Clinic (September-October):
Fall Clinics for boys and girls, grades K – 8. Weekly clinic sessions designed to develop and reinforce fundamental skills. Clinics run from mid-September thru October and last 90 minutes per session. Residents and non-residents welcome.
Basketball
This program begins in November for Boys and Girls entering K - 8th grade in the 2008-2009 school year.
Chess
Silver Knights Chess Company teaches chess to players of all ages and skill levels. Classes are held in the Twp. Community Room.
Flag Football
This program is open to children ages 6-14, (must be this age by Sept. 1, 2009). Ages 6-11 will be co-ed. Ages 12-14 will be seperated. Practices & games will be held weekday evenings in June, July and August at the Bryan Freeman Park.
Glamour Club for Girls
This five week course will be available to girls ages 6-11. The program will cover social graces, proper etiquette, diet and nutrition, hair and nail care maintenance, basic modeling, and photo shoot.
Golf - Golden Pheasant Golf Course
Instructor: Ed Witczak. This instructional, 4 day program runs, Monday - Thursday, are at the Golden Pheasant Golf Course. The program includes: golf etiquette, putting, chipping and driving. Left handed clubs are available. Program is open to the first 10 registrants.
Golf - STICKS FOR KIDS
Lumberton Recreation and Golf Course Builders Association of America are partnering with Springfield Golf Center in the Sticks for Kids pilot program. Instructional classes for ages 6-17 are held at Springfield Golf Center, under the supervision of PGA pro, Mike Beal. As a program participant, Lumberton Recreation has received 10 sets of junior golf clubs that will be made available to our residents during scheduled instruction. We will be offering a variety of classes and clinics throughout the year. All skill levels are welcome and encouraged to take advantage of this great opportunity.
Hockey
The Street Hockey program begins in April for children currently in K - 2nd grade. Most games are played on Sunday afternoons, there may be some games during the week.
The Roller Hockey program begins mid to late April for children currently in 3rd - 8th grade. Games are played during the week and Saturday/Sunday. The season will last 10 weeks. All players must have protective gear to play (head, face, elbows and knee-shin pads). This program does involve traveling.
Mad Science Summer Camps
We are offer various camps through out the year.
Pony Grooming and Riding Program
This week long program is available for children ages 7-11. Some of the horsemanship matters covered will include: safety on and around horses, basic anatomy, equine senses and body language, grooming, the tack and the harness, driving the miniature horse, and barn management. Some short riding will also be done in each session. This program enhances teamwork, self esteem, and camaraderie while helping to develop a genuine appreciation and respect for the animals. Proper attire must be worn: long pants, strong (hiking type) shoes and bicycle helmet.
Soccer-Indoor - Registration is now open.
This program is open to children currently in K-8th grades. Games are played on Friday evenings (Kindergarten only) and Saturday mornings. This program begins in January.
Soccer-Outdoor
This program is open to children who are entering K-8th grades in the 2008-2009 school year. Practices will begin late August, games will be in September and October 2008.
Softball
This program is open to girls entering grade one in the 2009-2010 school year through 8th grade. This program begins in the middle of April with most games on Saturdays and practice one evening per week.
Tennis 1-2-3
This program is held two nights a week starting in the Spring through Summer, for ages 6 - 16 years of age. Instructional will be held on Tuesday nights and Rally Ball play will be held on Thursday nights.
Tumblin' Tots
This 6 week program is open to children ages 2 - 5. This program focuses on building motor skills and coordination while children are having fun and developing social skills. Classes will involve movement, music, gymnastics, games, listening, and cooperation.
Youth Yoga
The youth yoga/fitness program, ages 5 - 7, is geared more to health and fitness activities.
